| Croi na Gaillimhe and AONTAS Celebrate Adult Learners |
The annual AONTAS Adult Learners Festival takes place from the 22nd - 26th February and Croi na Gaillimhe are holding several events to celebrate!!
On Wednesday 23rd we are holding a ´Celebrate Learning´ event from 2.30pm onwards. All those who attend classes / clubs at the Centre are invited to join us for the celebration where we will share stories and experiences. At the event we will unveil our ´Learning Tree´ when learners are encouraged to write or draw about the impact adult learning has made on their lives and hang it on the learning tree. The Mayor of the City of Galway, Declan McDonnell will also be in attendance to unveil our ´Learning Tree´ and talk with participants about their experiences! Refreshments will be served and this is a free event. ALL ADULT LEARNERS ARE WELCOME.Come along - looking forward to seeing you there!

| AONTAS Adult Learners Festival |
The annual AONTAS Adult Learners Festival takes place from the 22nd - 26th February and Croi na Gaillimhe are holding several events to celebrate!!
First of all we are holding a ´Silver Surfers´ morning at the Centre on Tuesday 23rd. From 11am - 1pm on Tuesday morning all older learners will be given a free 30 minute session of Internet and e-mailing. Volunteers will be available to assist with any enquiries. Just call 091 - 895203 for further information.

Croi na Gaillimhe Resource Centre, Society of St Vincent de Paul, 1 Mill Street, Galway were shortlisted for the local AIB Branch and are now through to the voting phase of the AIB Better Ireland Programme which takes place from the 15th February to the 15th March 2010. The project they were shortlisted for is a collaborative initiative with The National University of Ireland Galway. Croi na Gaillimhe Resource Centre, Society of St Vincent de Paul proposes to support vulnerable children through the implementation of an Intergenerational Programme of learning. This programme will target specifically children from socio-economic disadvantaged backgrounds and retired older adults. The National University of Ireland Galway has agreed to outreach “Living Scenes Model" of intergenerational learning and will provide facilitator training, monitoring and ongoing evaluation and support for this programme in Croi na Gaillimhe Resource Centre. Detailed University Research carried out on the Living Scenes Programmes over the last ten years clearly indicates the powerful and positive impact of Intergenerational Learning on the lives of the children involved. Looking at the Economy through Womens Eyes
Course Aims: the course will explore
What is the economy? How is the current crisis affecting womens lives, womens roles in the community, the home and the work-place? What kinds of work, paid and unpaid, do women tend to do and why? What kinds of work are valued and why? Economic growth, what does it mean? What are the connections between women in Ireland and women in countries of the global South?
Day 1: Women, care and the economy Day 2: Economic growth and wellbeing Day 3: Going global: introduction to two sides of globalisation: consumers and producers Day 4: Womens economic human rights
This course will take place in April (dates to be decided). It will take place over 4 Mondays (full days each week). This course is run by Banuacht.

| Line Dancing for Older People |
Maureen´s popular line dancing classes returned this week on Thursday morning. The classes got off to s fantastic start but it´s not too late to enrol so come along on Thursday morning at 10am if you want to join in the fun.
A little more info about the classes ...... Maureen runs two Line Dancing classes on Thursday mornings. The first class from 10.00 to 11.00 is aimed at beginners. The second class runs from 11.00 to 12.00 and is aimed at Improvers. Both classes are lots of fun!
The classes incorporate traditional and modern line-dancing, and adds an international flavour with Latin, a little Swing, folk dancing and group dancing - just like in Strictly Come Dancing!!
